A testimony is an eyewitness account of what you’ve seen and observed. In a court of law, a witness statement can be used as corroborating fact, or evidence. The impact of your personal observations is powerful. Noone can really dispute what you’ve seen and heard, as they weren’t there.
In life, you are an observer of what you’ve experienced, and how you felt and reacted. You are the expert witness in your own story. Our observations reflect our mindset, and our past experiences. They create the lens we use when looking at life. We frame our observations in the context of our own worldview, which is affected by our pain and trauma, as well as our beliefs and successes. Our reactions are a reflection of the condition of our soul. Our experience reflects who we are, what we’ve been through, and the lies we’ve believed.
John 8: 44b: “He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
Revelation 12:10-12a ESV And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony,”
These powerful scriptures give us understanding of the battle we find ourselves in. It clarifies that we have an enemy, who is always accusing us before God. He is lying to us about ourselves, other people, and about God. When we believe the lie, our observations about life are clouded by deception. Our mind becomes manipulated. However, the truth is that the authority of Christ has come, and thrown down the liar. We are not powerless, and our enemy has already been defeated. We overcome him by the blood of Christ, and the word of our testimony.
We can challenge and confront the lies with the truth, rendering them harmless. The truth will set us free, when we choose to believe what the Bible says about Jesus and about ourselves. We might need to eliminate the lie that we are stupid, selfish, or will never amount to anything. We might need to challenge the thought that no one really loves us. When we dismantle the lies of the enemy, we are taking back the power of our own testimony. It doesn’t matter whether the lie came through someone else, or from our own stinkin’ thinkin’. We develop a new perspective, and learn to triumph over the enemy.
2 Timothy 1:7-8a NKJV “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord,”
We can learn to challenge the negative thoughts that cloud our mind and twist the truth. We can be free of a negative mindset about ourselves and others. We can walk in the truth and be renewed.
1 John 1:7 “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.”
Let’s learn to walk in the truth, and begin to testify to what God has done in our lives. Our personal story will become a powerful tool to give us new vision, and bring hope to others.
