Behold, I am doing a new thing
God is moving in our world. Can you perceive it? The Holy Spirit is active and powerful. Jesus is appearing to thousands of Muslims around the world. The underground church in Iran is strong and growing. Tens of millions of Christians are believed to be in the “house churches” of China. Closer to home, revival is breaking out on college campuses and in public gatherings for worship and prayer. God is waking up His church and bringing awareness of His power manifested today. The church is moving away from formulas and programs and is displaying the power of God for transformation. Miraculous testimonies are multiplying.
1 Cor 1:30-31 ESV ‘And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.” ‘
Isaiah 43:18-19 “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”
God is doing a new thing. Have you turned your ear to hear what He is saying to you? Is He leading you through the wilderness of confusion in your life? Many of our thoughts, are focused on the past. We’ve called out to God for healing but have not been able to untie our thoughts from the injustice and the pain. We continue to rehearse the wrongs done to us, and the hurt we’ve experienced. We are stuck in a loop of bitterness despite God’s promise of freedom and joy that resides in Him.
Our thoughts can also be centered on what God did in the past. We saw His power transform our hearts, and we think of the good old days when Holy Spirit was moving in our circle. We cling to the images, the songs, and the friends from the times when we saw Holy Spirit moving. Yet, for some, it seems more difficult to connect to God today. Have you moved beyond the former things that happened in your life? Have you become stagnant? Have your opinions been formed in hope and become stiff and inflexible? Has your eye become so analytical and critical that you find fault with how most others do ministry? Have your preconceived ideas given God limitations in how He can do things? Does the noise of culture and world events bring you to fear, or into God’s presence for peace of mind: for hope in how He is moving.
Perhaps it is time to open your heart and your mind again, to witness the awesome power of God. Can you see Holy Spirit working and hear His gentle voice in your spirit? He is living and active in your life. Do you have eyes to see and ears to hear what God is saying and doing? It is time to cry out to God for a tender heart that perceives His love and is sensitive to His voice. May we be the ones who follow after God and witness His power.
Luke 8:9-10 “And when his disciples asked him what this parable meant, he replied, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of God, but for others they are in parables, so that seeing they may not be see, and hearing they may not understand.”
Joel 2: 26, 28a “You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, who has dealt wondrously with you. And my people shall never again be put to shame. And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh;”
God is speaking in our time, in our world, and in our hearts. He will speak through His word, His people, and in a still small voice in your heart. The Holy Spirit will give you a nudge and a confirmation. Let’s develop ears to hear what He is saying and how He is directing, so that we rejoice in hope in all circumstances. He is the Lord and we rejoice in Him!
