“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
We have entered a new season, and the Lord is up to something. We may be completely unaware, thinking that nothing has changed and feeling like we are stuck in the patterns we’ve walked in before. We might think our prayers are not being answered and that God is just moving slowly. Frustration might be leading us down a pathway of discontent, but the Lord is opening a new direction. He is guiding us to do things a little differently, and is supplying the grace to learn from Him, and move in His ways. Do we have the ears to hear?
In our confusion and misunderstanding, we can blame God for what we see happening. It must be God’s fault that righteousness is not reigning in our day. The fruit of man’s sin wreaks havoc and we wish God would just come down and straighten it all out. The prophet Habakkuk saw what was happening in his time, and complained to God about the enemy and the aggressor.
Habakkuk 1: 2-5 “O Lord, how long shall I cry for help, and you will not hear? Or cry to you ‘Violence!’ and you will not save? Why do you make me see iniquity, and why do you idly look at wrong? Destruction and violence are before me; strife and contention arise. So the law is paralyzed, and justice never goes forth. For the wicked surround the righteous; so justice goes forth perverted.”
The Lord answers in the next verse.
“Look among the nations, and see; wonder and be astounded. For I am doing a work in your days that you would not believe if told.”
God was answering Habakkuk’s questions and was moving, but he did not have the eyes to see. God was using enemies to try and get the attention of His people, and have then turn back to Him, but they remained stubbornly in their sin, and could not recognize God’s hand. We can find ourselves or our world in the same position, but we need to remember that God is moving on our behalf. We are His. We can allow Holy Spirit to give us insight and wisdom for our day.
2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”
Isaiah 43:18-21 ESV “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. The wild beasts will honor me, the jackals and the ostriches, for I give water in the wilderness, rivers in the desert, to give drink to my chosen people, the people whom I formed for myself that they might declare my praise.”
God is moving in the earth, showing Himself strong, and exposing the lies and manipulations of the enemy. It may appear that there is chaos in our lives, our government, or in nations, but God is setting righteousness before us. We can choose to walk in His ways.Whether our struggle is with the condition of society or within our own hearts, we can choose to follow. We can align ourselves with God’s principles and His truth and ask Him to lift the veil from our eyes. We will move with confidence into victory, if we trust what God is doing and see His hand. He is opening a new pathway for us. Do you not perceive it? Press in and seek Him, and He will show Himself strong on our behalf.
When the struggle is within ourselves and we need God to change our hearts and our circumstances, we can remind ourselves that He is faithful. He is a very present help in times of trouble or discouragement. “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Phil 4:19
Galatians 6:9-10 “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
