In the Waiting

"The answers for your life are in the endless wisdom of God." Kathy Spampinato

Do you sometimes feel like you're stuck in a waiting pattern? Have you longed for change in your own life and felt like you're not really making progress? Have you believed in and hoped for the answer to your prayers only to find yourself waiting? These situations can be frustrating, and leave us feeling discouraged and abandoned, but what is God saying in the waiting?

Many times we pour out our hearts to the Lord, and feel like we've been heard. We have a dream for our family or our future, and the Lord has encouraged us to hope in Him. We may feel like the Lord has given us a plan for what He wants to do in us and through us, and yet it is just out of reach. We seek the Lord and believe that our healing will come to pass, but when? There are prayers and leadings from God that take His timing and release. Can you sense the pull of God into the future? Can you feel the hope that drives you forward? But how are you to process this endless waiting? What you desire for the timeline, does not line up with God's timing. Again you're in the waiting.

Psalm 40:1-3a,11 ESV says, "I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. As for you, O Lord, you will not restrain your mercy from me; your steadfast love and your faithfulness will ever preserve me!"

This Psalm brings hope and a renewed faith that God does hear, and is leading you, and again you wait.

Psalm 31:24 "Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord!"

2 Peter 3:8-9 "But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promises as some count slowness, but is patient towards you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance."

This scripture is specifically referring to Jesus' 2nd coming, but there is guidance here that applies to our hopes and dreams. God's sense of time is different than ours. He sees the world from the perspective of His will and His plan unfolding in history: with no limitations of time. He sees the end from the beginning. His wisdom in beyond our comprehension and His patience is endless as He longs for all to come to repentance.

The answers for your life are in the endless wisdom of God. He could be waiting for others to mature, or to trust Him. He could be waiting for the perfect time or the perfect action of someone else, who is just about ready. He could also be using the waiting to develop your character and the fruit of the Spirit in your life. In many circumstances, we see ourselves as ready for the blessing, the next step, or the answer, but God sees the heart. He knows what formation must take place before victory can be won in your life. Are you going to derail God's process because you are eager and anxious to move? Will you take things into your own hands to make them happen now?

Speaking of Jesus, Paul says, in 2 Corinthians 1:20-22, "For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory. And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, and who has put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee."

Jesus said in John 16:12-14 "I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has in mine; therefore I said that he will take what in mine and declare it to you."

In the waiting, seek the wisdom of the Holy Spirit. He will reveal the plans and timing of the Lord to you. He will be your comforter and guide. He will also grow patience and longsuffering in you: some of the fruit of spending time with Him. The depths of your heart are known to God, and He may need to reveal them to you. Give Him your ear.

James 4:8, 10 "Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you." The answers to your hopes and dreams are in God. His timing is perfect.
