"God's desire is to come along side us to strengthen and guide us in a loving and supportive relationship. He is looking for those whose hearts are reaching out to Him." Kathy Spampinato
God does not need us, since He is lacking nothing, but He chooses us. We were created to have relationship with Him. He has perfect communication, unity, purpose, and relationship within himself: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is all powerful, all present, and perfect in all His ways. Yet, His love caused Him to make man in His own image. What a great mystery.
There are three scriptures I'd like to reflect on, that talk about God seeking. It might be a concept you've never pondered.
Luke 19:10 NIV says, "For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost." That is us. We are confused and lost in our own weakness. We need a savior and redeemer. We are the purpose and focus of Jesus' heart. We are the reason He came. He is seeking us.
2 Chronicles 16:9 "For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him." God's desire is to come along side us to strengthen and guide us in a loving and supportive relationship. He is looking for those whose hearts are reaching out to Him.
The third example comes from the story of the Samaritan woman in John 4. Jesus meets this woman at a well and begins to talk to her, despite the cultural barrier between them. He knows all about her circumstances, her needs, her history, and her heart. Jesus shows no condemnation towards her, despite the fact that she was probably shunned by the community because of her 5 husbands, none of which was the man she was currently with. Jesus offered her living water, so she would thirst no more. It is a beautiful story of God's love for a broken and very human person. Hidden in this story is another mention of God seeking us.
John 4: 23-24 Jesus says, "Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in Spirit and in truth."
This scripture is so compelling to me! I want to be the kind of worshiper God is looking for. I want to worship in spirit and in truth. So what does that mean? Jesus sent Holy Spirit as a gift to His church, and the Bible describes Him as our counselor, comforter and guide. (John 16: 14-16) Worship in spirit means I am being led and directed by Holy Spirit. My spirit is in communion and alignment with Holy Spirit, in leading me closer to God.
John 16:13 says, "But when he, the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth."
John 1: 1-2 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning."
Our culture tells us that we each have our own truth, and we get to choose what we will base our life on: that truth is relative to our own belief. However, the Bible tells us that Jesus is the truth, the Word of God is the truth, and the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth.
I would like to end by mentioning a passage where we are the ones seeking, and see what God has promised.
Jeremiah 29: 12-14a "Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares the Lord, "and will bring you back from captivity."
