Love, Abundance, and Overflow

"This kind of love and life is full of power and promise and hope. We know in whom we have believed." Kathy Spampinato

Many of us are familiar with the scripture that promises abundant life in God. Here it is, in the Amplified Version: the Bible translation that adds extra, descriptive words, that are included in the original language, but are not conveyed in English with just one word.

John 10:9-10 AMP Jesus says, "I am the Door; anyone who enters through Me will be saved {and will live forever}, and will go in and out [freely], and find pasture (spiritual security). The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it in abundance {to the full, till it overflows}.

I believe we all long for a joy-filled life that brings fulfillment and promise. This type of abundance is "The God-kind of life", described in The New Testament with the Greek word "zoe". It is the type of life that is rich, generous, full of love, power, and joy. It overflows with God's divine nature, and ability. It inherently carries the empowerment of the Spirit of God abiding with us and in us. The question is, how do we acquire that kind of a life?

2 Peter 2-3 AMP says, "Grace and peace {that special sense of spiritual well-being} be multiplied to you in the {true, intimate} knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. For His divine power has bestowed on us {absolutely} everything necessary for {a dynamic spiritual} life and godliness, through true and personal knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence."

God has provided that special, dynamic, and fulfilling life for us, in a true and personal relationship with Jesus. It is not enough to "know of Jesus", who He was and what He did. We need to have an experience where we come to know Him personally, in our heart. We need to communicate and share openly with the King of Kings, and have a convincing and transforming conviction of Him as our truth and our savior. The Bible describes it as being born again, and as walking in the Spirit. This kind of love and life is full of power and promise and hope. We know in whom we have believed.

2 Tim 1:12 ESV...."for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me."

Matthew 10:39 AMP Jesus tells us. "Whoever finds his life {in this world} will {eventually} lose it {through death}, and whoever loses his life {in this world} for My sake will find it {that is, life with Me for all eternity}."

This losing of life now, is the losing of the striving and anxious toil to get ahead. It is an abandonment of our own pride and the struggle with self-doubt. It is the gaining of the abundant, plentiful, exuberant, full, and luxuriant life that God supplies now. It is a learning to trust implicitly in God's guidance and care of us. It is a walk of faith, with the Holy Spirit as our counselor and guide.

Is this the type of life you long for? It is yours for the asking. Seek Him and find Him, when you search for Him with your whole heart. Take a step in His direction, and watch what God will do!
